A republican conference was held at the Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University with the participation of young people on the topic “Mother tongue: identity and future”

The conference was organized by the Ministry of Science and Education and the Republican Committee of the Trade Union of Science and Education Workers, with the support of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences.

The event began with the playing of the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, President of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences Isa Habibbeyli emphasized the special role of speech culture in preserving the purity of the Azerbaijani language and noted the importance of observing literary language norms in all areas. He also noted that work is continuing at the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences to develop a new conceptual model of Azerbaijani language grammar based on the principles of the independence period.

Deputy Minister of Science and Education Firudin Gurbanov emphasized in his speech that the mother tongue is of particular importance in terms of statehood, national identity and cultural security. He said that as a result of globalization, the rapid development of information technologies, artificial intelligence and the influence of mass communication media, national languages ​​are facing new challenges. According to the Deputy Minister, the forgetting of the native language and its excessive loading with borrowed words cannot fail to affect national consciousness and national identity. From this point of view, the preservation of the native language is not only a matter of language, but also an important issue related to national self-awareness, the preservation of moral values, and the future of society.

Rector of the Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University Jafar Jafarov noted that a teacher who loves and deeply knows the native language raises patriotic citizens who are committed to national values. He said that the preservation of the language and its transmission to future generations is an important responsibility of every scientist, teacher, and researcher.

Vice-Rector for International Relations of the Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University Mahira Huseynova spoke in her speech about the important role of the Azerbaijani language in the formation of national identity and emphasized the importance of the scientific activity of young researchers in solving existing issues in the field of linguistics. She also drew attention to the role of historical toponyms and dialectisms in the preservation of national memory.

Other participants who spoke at the opening ceremony exchanged views on the historical development of the Azerbaijani language, language policy in the context of modern challenges, the preservation of the mother tongue in the era of digitalization, the speech culture of young people and increasing their commitment to the language.

The speeches emphasized the importance of the consistent state policy implemented under the leadership of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, towards the preservation, development and promotion of the mother tongue at the international level. It was noted that the targeted measures implemented in this direction make a significant contribution to the preservation of the purity of the Azerbaijani language, compliance with its norms and rules, as well as strengthening its position in the digital environment.

After the official part, the conference continued with panel discussions.
